Careers Advice for Ambitious Women
This is a book for women who want to reach the top of their profession. It is very readable, and is targeted at the 50+ woman. It is also portable. The ten chapter headings are the key things the author feels women need to know to succeed – they are short, to the point and memorable in some instances. The layout of the book is easy to understand and follow with catchy sub-headings to break up the text and a useful synopsis at the end of each chapter to capture the salient points.
The book does not provide any new ideas, but what it does well is to reiterate key practical ideas reinforced by interviews and research results. Thus, Mrs Moneypenny peppers her text with the names of successful women she knows and admires. Her mantra is that at any stage of life women need and do better when they have the right ideas, focus and advice. She also mentions prioritising tasks, focus and realism so as to make right and sensible choices to suit you and your family. Chapters with the soundest advice are on financial literacy and understanding your finances; it is never too late, which is inspirational about pursuing your ambition, trying alternatives and persevering; and ways to develop a third dimension or doing voluntary work in order to further your career
